This past October as the air was starting to turn crisp, the leaves were changing colors, and the promise of fall was in full sway  we found out the happy news that we were expecting our 7th baby. We were thrilled. There was a healthy dose of nervousness with a whole lot of joy. I remember driving down the leaf strewn streets dropping off my son to kindergarten and just relishing that feeling of hope and sweet...

Overcoming Emotional Eating

You Can Overcome the Beast of Emotional Eating

Emotional eating is something that every single person in this world struggles with. No one is immune to emotional eating. It gets the best of us.

However, that doesn't mean that we have to just lay down and accept it. All that will do is lead to failure, more emotional eating, lessened self-discipline, and a body that we aren't particularly proud of.

What is emotional eating?

Look to the Lord...

faith step 1 step 2 Oct 11, 2016

This last weekend has been filled with challenges as well as beautiful moments. But isn't life just like that? Every day and every moment there are things that stretch us and help us grow. It is up to us how we choose to see those moments.

And who we choose to look to.

Today i heard a beautiful song on the radio. One that I've heard many times, and yet it was new again. In exactly teh moment I needed to hear it, these are the words that...

Follow the prophet, he knows the way

Uncategorized Oct 07, 2016

Tonight I was planning on sharing thoughts about step 4. This step is so important to me. It's something I thought I understood, but it wasn't until the last year or so that I gained a deep personal witness of these powerful truths. I will share some of those thoughts in later posts during this 31 day challenge. But tonight I just want to share this.

Any time our prophet speaks it's crucial for us to pay attention, and during priesthood...

Family prayers and kitchen tables

Today has been a rough day of sorts. We found out that a sweet neighbor got robbed in the middle of the day when she was away at a doctor's appointment. And have you heard any of this bizarre clown stuff going around? I just heard about it myself, but my poor boys have been hearing about it from kids at school and because of that it fueled our family conversation at dinner tonight. It was just a heavy emotional day.

It seems that the...

True joy is clean carpet

It seems that nighttime might just be my thing. I won't make any promises that I'll get a post up before 9:00 pm. Because you know, sometimes motherhood just trumps everything else. Basically every time. Like today. Today was filled with scrubbing pee from my 4 year old's carpet. It wasn't pretty. Actually it was pretty...pretty darn disgusting. But then again, so many times motherhood isn't pretty. Parenting isn't. It can be...

Are the teaching moments passing you by?

This is very late, but we have been gone all day spending time with family and soaking in all of the beautiful words and spirit of General Conference. We hope you have been too. Since Sunday is the Lord's day, we will always post a quote or a link to a talk or video from one of the prophets or apostles about the counsel the Lord gives to us concerning our families. This was one of the most powerful quotes from conference for me. Click...

Happy October!

Uncategorized Oct 01, 2016

October has always been one of my most favorite months. When Seth and I were dating I came home to my apartment one day after classes and found a giant vase full of gorgeous yellow lillies (my favorite) with a little note from him that simply said, "Happy October." I love the colors of the changing mountains, the wind blown leaves across the streets, the crisp fall air waving in through my kitchen window. It marks the...

Day 29: Self-Care Pillars for Families

Uncategorized Aug 02, 2016

We've talked about the Pillars of Self Care, and today we are looking at how they play a role in the lives of our families. We need to remember that our children learn from us in so many different ways, and most important is through our example.  In the November 1999 Ensign, Elder Dallin H. Oaks taught, "In the Lord's great plan of salvation there are no more important teachers than parents, who teach their children...
